It has been a different kind of weekend around here. Matt is finishing up his big project (in order to graduate), the kids have been spending lots of time with their grandparents (to stay out of matt's hair), and I've been left on my own...to do whatever. At first it was kind of nice, but then I started missing the chaos that usually drives me crazy. The house was so empty with no little ones running around. Most of the time Lily was here, but she isn't so little anymore. It was weird.
So, I spent most of my time sewing. I made a few dresses - one for Ava (more on that later) and one for me. McCall's patterns were on sale for $0.99 at Hancock's last week, so I picked up a few. Above is M5621. The tunic style really appealed to me. According to The Pocket Stylist, tunic and shift dress are a great option for my body type. Hmm, I'm not so sure about this one. Comfortable, yes, flattering, um, not sure. Part of the problem is that I made a size too big. Also, I definitely need a full bust adjustment to give a little more shaping, I did add a some side shaping in the side seams, but I really need darts to take up some of the excess fabric under the bust.
As you can see, I used more thrifted sheets. I now know that I have an aversion to wearing dresses made from sheets outside of the house. As cute as this dress is, I'm afraid that I can only wear it around the house or as a night gown - my new favorite night gown :) I finally got smart and used the hem of the sheet as the hem of the dress - duh. I'm not giving up - I have another version cut out (not from a sheet) and ready to go, darts and all.
