A few weeks ago a dear friend asked if I'd make her daughter, Camille, a dress for her birthday. A polka dot dress. Camille will be turning 3 and wanted a "dalmatian" dress, which is what she calls polka dots. I told her that I'd look in my stash to see if I had anything, but I was pretty sure that I did.
I had 3 polka dot prints with black, so I decided to use them all. At the time I was making my Weekend Sewing dresses, so I thought I'd give another a try, the Flower girl dress. Of course I had to put my own spin on it, which included the ruffle hem, the trim, and ties.
That side part was an accident. If you make this dress, be sure to measure your model and the pattern. I used Ava as my guide. According to her girth, I should make the largest size. It may have been a tracing error on my part, but when I sewed up the bodice, it didn't fit over Ava's head. I didn't want to make a new one, so I added about 4" with side extensions. It's now a design element *wink*. The dress may now be a little too big, but I'd rather it on the large side than too small. I hope both Camille and her mom are happy with it. I know that Ava and I are - she wanted it for herself :)
