I can't tell you how relieved I am to finish this one. I'm also a little embarrased to admit how long it has been sitting around, unfinished. An unfinished dress or quilt is one thing, but a slipcovered chair? That is out in your living room? That everyone who comes to your house sees? Um, yeah. I bought this chair exactly a year ago. It sat there, in all it's blue glory until I half-way slipcovered it in October. I only did the back and sides. It needed decking, the cushion and a skirt, but it was good enough. I had out of town guests arriving, so I just tucked fabric around it and made do - for 6 long months. Finally, about 6 weeks ago I got tired of it, so I turned the slipcover inside out to start working on it. In my haste to work on it in October, I didn't to a very good job, so some seams needed to be redone. And then I didn't touch it, so it sat there with a half-way made slipcover, raggedy seams exposed. Not a pretty sight.
It isn't perfect, but it's done. Well, almost. I still need to sew up the back of the cushion (wonder how long that will take me??). That pillow is one of my placemat pillows. This weekend I tea dyed it to tone it down a little bit. I like it better now (though it still looks pretty bright in this photo).
See, I already had that paisley fabric to make sofa pillows, so all the white needed to be off-white. I made those this weekend, too. I wasn't going to add any trim to the pillows, but I happened to have some brush fringe on hand from some pillows that I intended to make for my bedroom, oh, about 4 years ago. I don't think brush fringe is in vogue anymore, but I don't care.
In case you were wondering, the knock off pillows are now living in the captain chairs behind the sofa.
(See, all the half-assedness? Now that I think about it, I never did finish this either, but at least the slipcover isn't sitting on the chair! Hmm, I wonder where that slipcover is???)
